RE: 129 Circular Street—Roof Replacement
Dear Tamie:
..
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation has reviewed the additional information
provided for the roof replacement at 129 Circular Street.
This Greek Revival style built circa 1832 known as"Les Tuilleries"or the Madame Jumel
House is a"contributing building"to the East Side Historic District listed on the National
Board of Directors Register of Historic Places. The Greek Revival characteristics on this residence include a
Adam N.Favro front door with transom and sidelights, front facing temple front, wide frieze band, engaged
President pilasters, and an inset porch with two-story square wood columns.
James Gold The applicant proposes to replace the existing standing seam metal roofs of the north and
Vice President
south wings with faux slate shingle asphalt shingles. Roofs are an important character-
Linda Harvey-Opiteck defining feature of a building and contribute to the significance of the property. A
Secretary photograph appears to show that the roof of the wings were possibly slate and/or wood
Dmitriy Yermolayev shingle (see enclosed).
