Adequatefy Dry Inadequate drying can result in grapfic failure including curling, increased shrinkage and adhesion failure,
Graphics which are not covered under any 31V1 warranty.
Poarly dried film becomes soft and stretchy, and the adhesive becomes too aggressive.
Even if your printer has a dryer,it may not adequate dry latex and solvcnf inks in the short period of time it
spends passieig through the heater.
Recammendations ta Dry the graphic unrolled or at least as a loose wound roll standing upright.7o firrther increase air circulatican
improve the drying of solvnt place the spooled film roll on a grid, and place a fan beneath therid-
inks
If you only spool open the fifm, adequate drying could still take a week, depending on the environment.
8uild enough time inYo your process to ensure adequote drying of the yrapfiic.3M rccommends at Erast a
minimum drying time of 24 hrs 6efore further processiny.Test:Fold a piece of film with
maximum ink laydown of the graphic nnto ftself.Apply 140 g/cmfor 15 minutes, rclease and check for
effects like sticking or dull spats. These are cfear indications that further curing or drying is needed.
Notice:Latex inks are Unlike solvent inks, spoaling and letting latex printed graphics sii does not help to cure the ink,but does allow
different the graphic manufacturer ro see if any oily spots are generated which may interfere with pvoper adhesion of
overlaminates.
To ensure proper fatex ink drying, use the following recommendtions:
Media_Presets HP media presets contain all the needed seYtings to prir7t an a specific media.
Dowrtload and use media presets from the following page:www.hp.com/go/mediasoiutionslocator.
Environmental Conclitions:HP media presets heve been specially designed and tested for each printer-media
com6ination.
Recammended environmenkal conditions:+20C ta+25°C,Humidity 40%-60%RM
Important notice for HP Thie amount of ink prirted is the mairkey for proper ovrlominate adhesion.Select a media preset using
831/871 and HP 881/$91 1p0%or less ink density.
Post processing of latex Latex inks sfould ernerge from thc pririYer fully dried.Posi air dryincof a wret print will not enable drying,
printed graphics immediately sii7ce latex ink dryinG requfres that tl7e dried ink is heated a6ove the fifm forrnation temperature of the latex
after printing inside the priiter.
For intmtdiately post-processing of latex printed graphics follow strictly threcommendations given abovE
(Section Latex inks nre different)ond test the proper drying with the followincperformance tests:
Visual Test:Check the image immediately after printing. The sample should not be wet or sticky to the touch,
or have an'oify'feel when it emeres from the printer.
Rub6ing Te:t Aftcr the visual inspeciion, wipe the printed sample with a whitc wet paper towel.Fully-dried
ink sliould resist wiping and shotid not show any stains on the white cloth. If the ink is esily removed by wet
ribbing,then it is not dricd.
Stacking Test:In some cases, the top surface will appear dry after printing 6ut within a few minutes ink may
micrate to the surface feaving an oily aspect. To ensure proper dryiny, stack at least 12 sheets liner to printed
side and let sit for one hour.
After 1 hour, remove the stack and check for"oily"stains, wet surfaces or glossiness changes on hlgh ink
laydown areas on each sllcet. If any of thcse occur, then think is not properfy dried.
If a sanple is not properly drled on the printer, reprint the image uider a condition that allows complete
drying.Cornrron improvernent steps are:
Increasing the drying temprature in 5 degree steps.
Increasing the number of passes to slow down printing.
-Reducing the amourt of ink printed(medi;preset with lower'ink densities).
