PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Bethesda Church is proposing the construction of a multi-use building on the land adjacent to the
existing church at 26 Washington Street in the city of Saratoga Springs, NY. The multi-use
building will consist of a Great Hall, library which will be used for small groups, 30 bedroom
facility, and offices.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
Water Distribution — A 10-inch ductile iron water main is located in the middle of Washington
Street. A hydrant flow test conducted on April 22, 2015 at 41 Washington Street indicated a
static pressure in the area of 89 pounds per square inch (psi). Projected available fire flow is
4,255 gallons per minute (gpm) at 20 psi as calculated below:
QR - QF X HR HF0.54
_ 1,z3 X s9-zo(s9-szo.54
= 4,255 gpm
Where:
Qx = Rated Capacity at 20 psi (gpm)
QF = Total test flow (gpm)
Hx = Static Pressure minus 20 psi
HF = Static Pressure minus Residual Pressure
Sanitary Sewer — An existing 12-inch PVC sanitary sewer main owned and maintained by the
City of Saratoga Springs runs down the middle of the Washington Street and flows to the east.
SEWER AND WATER USAGE
Table 1 below provides information on the anticipated average potable water use and wastewater
flow rates for the project. Water use and wastewater flow are estimated to be equal for this
study.
Average Daily Flow(ADF) _
Great Ha1L (150 seats)x (20 gpd/seat) = 3,000 gpd
Library (Assembly Hall): (40 seats)x (5 gpd/seat) = 200 gpd
ResidentiaL (30 bedrooms)x (110 gpd/bdrm) = 3,300 gpd
Offices: (23 employees)x (15 gpd/employee) = 345 gpd
Tota1= 6,845 gpd

Summary of Design Flows
Average values for water consumption and sewer flows are based on an 8-hour day. Peaking
factor for instantaneous water use is estimated to be 10 times the average based upon past
experience. Peaking factor for sanitary sewer flow is approximately 4.13 times the averagei.
Average daily demand for water usage is anticipated to be 14.26 gallons per minute (gpm).
Instantaneous peak flow is estimated at 142.60 gpm.
Average daily flow for wastewater is anticipated to be 14.26 gpm. Peak hourly flow is estimated
to be 58.89 gpm.
PROPOSED CONDITIONS
Water Distribution — To service the project, the existing 10-inch main along the middle of
Washington Street will be tapped to provide a 6-inch combined fire protection and domestic
service lateral to the site. A combined fire protection and domestic waterline will be brought to
the building's mechanical room where the domestic line will tee off and be metered. Fire
suppression for the building will be provided by fire sprinklers. The closest fire hydrant is
located in front of the existing church.
The fire sprinkler demand is 600 gpm at 60 psi. The proposed water service will provide
sufficient flow and pressure to meet the fire sprinkler water demand.
Connections and appurtenances, including mechanical joints, tees, isolation valves, thrust blocks,
trenching, bedding, service connections, as well as testing and disinfection will all be specified in
accordance with City of Saratoga Springs standards.
Sanitary Sewer — Sanitary sewer service for the project will be provided from the City of
Saratoga Springs sewer main along Washington Street. A 6-inch sewer service from the
proposed building is proposed to wye into the existing sewer main. The sewer lateral will
maintain a minimum slope of 2%.
All sanitary sewer lines, manholes and connections will be furnished and installed according to
the City of Saratoga Springs standards.
