Re: Skidmore College- New Recreation Center adjacent to the North Side Recreation Fields
Dear Mr. Torpey:
We write to express our concern regarding the Referenced application for planning approval. The proposed site
comprises a partially undeveloped grass field and sits on an elevated parcel of land immediately adjacent to the
North Side Recreation Fields. We believe that without the implementation of an adequate rainwater mitigation
system being put into place the building of the proposed structure will exacerbate the current flooding of the
North Side Recreation Fields and the adjacent road located at 2, 6 and 10 Clement Avenue following a.
rainstorm.
Flooding of the Northside fields along with the area of road located adjacent to 2, 6 and 10 Clement Avenue
occurs currently following a rainstorm to the extent that rainwater covers the entire road because insufficient
drainage exists to accommodate the amount of rainwater emanating from the fields; see attached pictures.
Given the foregoing, we respectfully request that the Planning Board give due consideration to the sufficiency
of drainage associated with the recreation building such that it completely mitigates any additional rainwater
run off onto the adjacent recreation fields and Clement Avenue.
Additionally,we would ask the Planning Board to consider the height of the structure, as compared to the
existing adjacent structure, and plans for plantings, trees/etc. on the back side (facing Clement Avenue) so as to
soften the new structure as both of the these factors were also not apparent in the first rendering.
