Re:Request for Approval to Demolish Detached Garage at 111 Van Dam Street,Saratoga Springs,NY 12866
(Tax Parcel 165.51-1-64)
Dear Members of the Design Review Board,
I am writing to request approval to demolish the detached garage located on my property at 111 Van Dam Street,
Saratoga Springs,NY 12866 (Tax Parcel 165.51-1-64),as part of my Architectural Review application to the Design
Review Board.Below is some background on the structure and my plans for the site going forward.Enclosed with
this application are color photographs of the existing garage and property details, along with a scaled site plan
showing the structure's dimensions, setbacks, and location relative to the property lines.I am also attaching the
current property information
Condition of the Structure
The garage has deteriorated significantly over time. The foundation is cracked and has shifted under the structure.
The overall structure shows clear signs of wear and tear, making repairs impractical, which has been determined by
a local contractor. The garage does not have any water access, plumbing, heat, insulation, sheet rock or plaster in the
structure.Given its condition,I believe demolition is the most sensible path forward rather than continucd upkeep
or renovation.
Architectural Significance
The garage has no distinguishing architectural detail, historic designation,or design features connecting it to the
character of the surrounding neighborhood or the main residence. Its removal will not affect the architectural
integrity of the property or the community.
Future Use of the Site
I do not intend to construct a replacement structure.Following demolition, the site will be leveled and graveled.
I respectfully request the Board's review and approval of this request.I am happy to provide any additional
documentation the Board may require.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerety,
