To whom it may concern:
I'm writing to offer my support for the proposed civic space in the right-of-way (ROW) on
Station Lane as part of the 17 West Avenue, planning board project #20230233, as proposed by
West Station LLC.
Upon meeting and discussion with representatives of my department, the preliminary proposal
reviewed and supported by DPW includes the building entrance stairway into the ROW,
benches, pavers, raised flower beds, manicured greenspace and plantings. An item for future
discussion would also be an art installation in the area for public viewing. No additional
connections or stairways to the building should be considered for maintenance and public access
concerns. All improvements, maintenance, and repairs shall be the responsibility of the building
owner at all times. A sign will be installed informing the public that this area is "for quiet public
enjoyment at all times."
Since they are in the ROW, these improvements will require a permanent license agreement
approved by the Real Estate Committee and the City Council.
All work will be reviewed and performed in consultation and with the approval of DPW staff. A
final -sign-off on site plans, discussion at the pre -construction meeting, and review of the
construction progress are all expectations of this project.
DPW supports this Civic Space improvement in the ROW as part of the 17 West Avenue project.
