In consideration of the Request for an Advisory Opinion by the Zoning Board of Appeals

Advisory opinion to the Zoning Board of Appeals regarding an area variance for construction of a fence in the Urban Residential
- 3 (UR-3) District, tax parcel #165.51-1-24, within the City of Saratoga Springs.
Following discussion on this matter on August 5, 2026, the Design Review Board offers the following with respect to the Zoning
Board of Appeal’s for input with particular attention to the requested variances and compatibility with neighboring properties and
the character of the neighborhood:
Unfavorable Opinion
Considerations:
While the Design Review Board is sympathetic to the applicant’s concerns, a twelve-foot sound barrier is not the
appropriate solution. A barrier of this height will detract from the character of the neighborhood and negate the quality
of the pedestrian experience.
