Thoughtful Home Renovation
The project involves the selective demolition and renovation
of an existing single -family residence to improve its
functionality, appearance, and long -term viability.

EXISTING CONDITIONS
The prope rty is currently developed with a
single -family home situated on a prominent
corner lot along Fifth Avenue.

EAST SIDE HISTORIC DISTRICT
CONTEXT
The existing home was first developed in 1964. The
lot sat vacant as a single parcel and was subdivided
at a later date between 1954 and 1964. To the
right is the Sanborn Maps from 1954, the last on
file with the Library of Congress.
Home Developed in 1964
Established in 1982 on the National Register of
Historic Places. There were over 400 Homes
surveyed for contributing factors of the historic
district for the Colonial Revival, Bungalow, Tudor
and Queen Anne styles we have learned to admire
within the East Side.

When the survey was completed, the National
Register of Historic Places found (15) Non -
Contributing properties which did not fit criteria for
the historic district. 22 5th Ave was established as a
Non -Contributing home on Page 5 of the report.

EAST SIDE HISTORIC DISTRICT
PRIOR IMPROVEMENTS
The Front Porch is a non -historical component of the home. The home was originally constructed
in a Colonial Revival style with no front porch established. It wasn’t until a major site improvement
was made in 1999 which added the Front Porch, The rear porch walkway, and the detached
garage. Two of these components are proposed to be demolished, both of which are non -
contributing to the historical context of the surrounding East Side neighborhood. Below is a
