To Whom It May Concern:
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation supports a comprehensive approach to
reduce non-local, heavy truck traffic in the historic core of Saratoga Springs.
Saratoga Springs is fortunate to have a vibrant downtown and beautiful neighborhoods.
The core of the city is largely comprised of historic buildings that were constructed in the
mid- to late-1800s and early 1900s, many of which are identified as contributing
buildings to historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Unfortunately, over the years, non-local, heavy truck traffic has significantly increased
throughout the city. In addition to the negative visual and audible impacts, the heavy
truck traffic creates pollution and significant vibrations that can undermine historic
buildings, making these historic areas less desirable places to visit, live, and work.
Any solution proposed cannot focus on reducing non-local, heavy truck traffic in one area
of the city that would result in an increase in other historic areas. The Foundation
encourages local, county, and state officials to seek a comprehensive solution that reduces
the non-local, heavy truck traffic throughout our historic core, including Broadway,
Circular Street, Church Street, East Avenue, Lake Avenue, South Broadway, Van Dam
Street and Washington Street.
