The Design Review�Comtr�ission will evaluate wi�ether the proposed actioro (construction, alteratian or
demolition) Es compatible with existing structures and surra�anding praperties using the fol[awing criteria:
• Height—consisten�with historic form and context of site and starrounding properties
• Scale—relationship af structure and its architectural elements ta human size, form, perceptian
• Proportion—relationship among building elements inCluding front fa�ade, windows, ar�d doors
• Rhythm — pattern resulting from repeating building elements such as door/window openings, columns,
arches, and other fa�ad� elements
+ D�rectional Expression—cnmpatibility w�th harizontal &verCical expression of surrounding 5tructures
. Massing&Open Space— relationship of structure to open space between it and adjoining buildings
• Satback—compatibility with surrounding struct�res
• Compatibility of t4�e following with surrounding struct�areslproperties:
- Major building elements {sxorefronts, doors, windows, roof}
- Building materiaks
- Color— (in non-residentiaf �oning districts only)
i. DECIS�atvS:The Design Review Cammiss€an may approve, approve with conditians, or c3isapprove an
application. The DRC may impos�approprE�.te conditinns and safeguards in connection with its appraval
including nature/quality of materials, manner of canstruction, and design. An applicant may appeal a denied
DRC application on the grounds of hardship.
Applkation approvals shall expire within I 8 months of approval �anless the project has sufficiently commenced
(i.e. building/demolition permits obtainecf and construction/alteration begun}_ Applicants rnay request up ta 2
extensions if requested before expiratian date of prior approval.

meeting dates.
