RE: 624 North Broadway – Demolition & New Construction
Dear Tamie:
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the application for demolition and new
construction at 624 North Broadway.
The site of the proposed new construction is within the National Register listed Broadway
Historic District with a period of significance from 1865 – 1920. The area along North
Broadway is characterized by a residential boulevard lined with high architectural styles
ranging from Greek Revival to Italianate, Queen Anne, Romanesque, Shingle Style and
Colonial Revival-style “cottages” set on spacious landscaped grounds. Very few modern
buildings intrude upon the architectural consistency of North Broadway.
As previously stated with a prior application, the Foundation does not oppose the demolition
of the existing structure at 624 North Broadway. The Foundation is pleased that the proposed
design gives the appearance of a single-family residence and that the architectural style is
compatible with North Broadway.
The Foundation expressed concerns regarding the mass and scale of the roof to the project
architect and is pleased that changes were made to address those concerns.
The Foundation respectfully requests that the Design Review Board require the applicant to
provide additional information regarding the setback and height of the proposed building and
its relationship to the adjacent buildings prior to approval. The Foundation looks forward to
reviewing the proposed materials once they are submitted.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
C. Christopher Armer Samantha Bosshart
