Chair Received by Accounts cc: Building Department Accounts Dept. Applicant/Agent 05-07-26 City of Saratoga Springs, NY Design Review Commission Attn: Tamie Ehinger and members of the Design Review Board Dear members of the Design Review Board, At your request at the DRB meeting in April to meet with Chris Bennett to discuss the condition of the siding and the windows. The results of that meeting are described below. I trust that this will clarify the decision on windows and siding. 05-07-26 – Meeting with Chris Bennett, Mark Smisloff, Grace Smiloff, Cassie Cifone and Susan Davis RE: 47 Ash Street Windows After review by Chris Bennett to understand the condition of the existing windows, it was decided that the original/historic windows (4 in total) could be repaired and refinished as needed, and moved to the front façade of the house as shown in the proposed design. They will then have to have wood storm windows added to maintain the required energy standards. The remaining windows were found to be in significant disrepair or not original to the home and will be replaced with Anderson WoodWright series windows per the design. The windows shall have a 2 over 2 design configuration. Front Facade First Floor - The windows will be original on this façade and remain in the present location. The Front door is not original and will be replaced with a historically appropriate door. (TBD) Second Floor - The existing second story door will be re-located as approved on the proposed front elevation. The 2 additional original windows will be repaired and installed as indicated on the proposed elevation. Siding The original shingle and clapboard siding was found to be in significant disrepair. The West façade side of the house will need to be replaced with fiber cement board for fire-rating purposed due to its location on the property line. Therefore, all clapboard siding is proposed to be replaced with a fiber cement board siding in a lighter color, clapboard on the lower half and shingles on the upper half as necessary. All trim will be replaced with new wood trim to match existing size and profile. The cedar shakes will have a fire retardant paint as required to meet the required fire rating.
