The Pitney Meadows Community Farm features a late 19th century vernacular farmhouse and associated accessory buildings, many of which are historic. The site is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and rehabilitation tax credit syndication. Therefore, the Foundation recommends that the applicant follow best preservation practices. The window survey provided does not demonstrate that the windows cannot be repaired. The original windows should be retained and repaired. Storm windows should be added to provide the energy efficiency that the applicant is seeking. The applicant also did not provide any evidence of the condition of the original wood siding underneath the vinyl siding. It is highly unlikely that the condition of the existing siding requires wholesale replacement. The Foundation respectfully requests that the Design Review Board request evidence of the condition of the siding before approving wholesale replacement. In addition, it appears that the inappropriate existing metal porch column and balustrade are being removed. However, no details are provided for the replacement porch columns, including materials and dimensions. Similar to the above, the Foundation respectfully requests that the Design Review Board require the applicant to provide details regarding the proposed porch columns. The Foundation does not object to the proposed rear addition. The Foundation greatly appreciates the significant investment the applicant is making into this important historic building. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration. Sincerely, C.
