My responses are below. 2. Adding a 10kw generator will not create a detriment to nearby properties. Also, the Pet Lodge is not in a neighborhood. 3. The variance is for a generator which is not a "permanent" structure and thus isn't substantial. 4. Adding a generator will not have an adverse effect not the environment. The installation will be checked by certified technicians and will be maintained annually. In fact, the variance will provide benefit to locals. The variance will allow for heat to the Pet Lodge in the event of a power outage. If there were to be a massive snow or ice storm and power was unavailable for days, animals will be kept warm and provide benefit to Saratoga residents who may themselves have to seek shelter in hotels that often do not allow for pets. 5. The required property setbacks are what is making a variance necessary. The generator can either be placed 3' from the front-most A/C unit (which faces the left property line) on the left side of the building, about 15.5' or 16' from the left property line, or it can be place in the front corner of the building, 3' from the front -most A/C unit (the back of the generator will face the side of this A/C unit). To also give a 3' clearance from the electrical box, the generator will be placed behind the existing bushes on the front left corner of the building. Two more bushes will be planted to make certain the generator is not visible from the front parking lot. The building is about 600' from route 9. Did someone tell you I couldn't get a zoning variance to put it where I originally wanted? (it would have been less than 20' from the left property line, so a variance would be needed.). The generator would be about 16.5 feet from the left property line. My understanding is, I was asking for a variance ($600 fee I was charged). If the zoning board denied me, I would have to go to the DRC ($125 fee I was charged). I also paid a $125 permit fee I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks so much for your help! And, do I get reimbursed for some of the fees since it seems two of the 3 may not even be needed?
