RE: 233 Ballston Avenue - Demolition
Dear Tamie:
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the supplemental information that was
provided to justify the removal of the structure at 233 Ballston Avenue. The Foundation
appreciates the additional information the owner provided.
As our earlier letter stated, the building is one of the rare industrial buildings that remains in
Saratoga Springs. It appears the owner’s lack of maintenance has resulted in the poor condition
of the building, a self-created hardship. The Foundation encourages the owner to securely
mothball the building, which is not in danger of collapse, until another use can be identified
such as storage, workspace, or as an amenity for its employees, such as a recreation space. The
Foundation continues to believe that the proposed gazebo is not an acceptable post demolition
plan.
The building may be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, which
would make it qualify for state and federal rehabilitation tax credits.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
Christoper Amer Samantha Bosshart
