Joanne Thorburn Towers and I have spent a bit of time surveying the properties on both sides
of George Street on the block in which their home is located .
George Street - North SIde
The north side of George Street is fairly consistent in that it largely consists of 2-story single
family homes located fairly close to George Street. Of the 13 properties on that side of the
street, 5 have detached garages and one has a pool . It appears that a typical home on that
side of the street has a peak height of approximately 30 ft.
George Street - South Side
On the south side of George Street, the Union Avenue side, it is a much different, and varied
land .
We counted 11 properties on that side of the street.
To the extreme west end is Union Gables, a bed and breakfast consisting of 11 units in the
main house, and a carriage house that accommodates 4 people. There is also a pool located
on the property. Union Gables occupies the first properties on that side of the street.
The 4th property in from the west end of the block, 155 Union Ave., consists of a large home
on Union, and a large carriage house on George Street. This property is apparently condos, and
received an area variance in April of 2018.
The 6th property from the west, immediately to the west of our subject property has a
detached garage immediately adjacent to the common property line.
The property immediately to the east of our subject property has a large barn, which although
is uninhabited, is a very large structure, and will be much larger than our proposed structure.
The 10 the property consists of 2 fairly large principal structures any contain many rental units, and has
driveway access to George St.
The final property on the extreme east end of the block consists of 32 condominiums also with driveway
access to George Street.
