RE: 10 Franklin Street – Exterior Alterations
Dear Tamie,
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the application for the exterior
alterations at 10 Franklin Square.
The two-story brick structure, built post 1900, is a contributing building to the West Side
Historic District.
The Foundation does not object to the proposed exterior alterations at 10 Franklin Square.
It understands the need for greater accessibility as services grow and change for the
Franklin Community Center. The Foundation recommends that the window that is to be
removed be stored on site should the use of the building ever change in the future.
Typically, the Foundation would not support the addition as it is proposed. However, the
Foundation understands there is an increased demand for the food pantry, an important
resource for those in need in our community. The walk-in pantry is an addition to a non-
contributing extension of the building that is located at the rear of the property and, while
highly visible, it can be removed in the future. Therefore, the Foundation does not object.
