Dear members of the Design Review Board,
We are working with Mark Smisloff, the owner of 47 Ash Street.
We are seeking approval to reconstruct the original two-story front porch in a manner that is both
historically appropriate and structurally sound. The existing porch is currently in poor condition and poses
a safety concern. We are also seeking approval to replace the original windows with Anderson
Woodwright Series. The existing windows and sills are damaged beyond repair and in some instances
not original.
A recent survey confirmed that the existing porch and stairs extend over the property line onto City
property. However, the current location of the porch aligns with the neighboring properties on the street
and is consistent with the established character of the neighborhood. We expect to receive approval from
the City Council on 3/17/26. The project has received approval from the Real Estate Commission.
To reconstruct the original historic porch, we respectfully request your review and approval.

Dear Members of the Real Estate Committee,
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation reviewed the proposed plans to reconstruct
a full-width front porch at 47 Ash Street.
The house at 47 Ash Street is a historic building. Based on preliminary research the two-
story, full-width porch was added to the building between 1900 and 1926. The front porch
is an important character-defining feature of this historic property. The Foundation
supports the City of Saratoga Springs entering into an easement agreement with Mark
Smisloff to allow for the porch to be retained.
The Foundation appreciates the investment that the owner is making in their historic house.
