Hello, Julia!
The exact make and models have not been finalized, as naturally no materials have been
ordered prior to this application being approved by the DRB. However, please find the attached
preliminary specifications for the proposed intent; this includes a Bilco StakWEL Modular well
system in a beige color to match the existing stone building foundations, and an Anderson 400
Series CW135 Casement Window in white to match the existing window trim of the residence.
The CW135 model in particular is likely to be the final product used, as this matches the width
of the existing basement windows which are to be replaced with the egress windows. The exact
make and model of the well is subject to change based on availability at the time of
construction, but will remain otherwise identical in proposed size and color. As this is indeed in
the historic review district, the intent is of course to minimize the impact of these changes and
preserve the appearance of the original residence, matching existing material colors wherever
relevant.
I hope this provides the information you need! Thank you, and please advise if you require
anything further from us.
Best regards,
Ember DeMio

Good afternoon Ember,
I'm reviewing this application for inclusion on the February 11 agenda.
Please send me materials specs for the windows you are going to be installing - brand, model,
materials, color as well as for the well itself.
Please let me know, and remember this is in a historic district.
Thank you

Hello!
This Ember DeMio with Nolan Engineering, following up on my earlier phone call. As
mentioned, please find the attached Design Review Board application regarding the project
we’re working on for 99 Division St, on behalf of the owner Nick Argenti (copied here). The
attached includes the filled and signed application as well as relevant supplemental materials,
which we’re hoping to bring before the DRB at the next meeting on February 11th. The project is
relatively straightforward with no major exterior alterations planned, just the replacement of two
existing basement windows with egress-compliant openings and the installations of associated
egress wells, for a basement finishing project.
As discussed, we’ll deliver a physical hard-copy of the attached alongside a check for the
associated fees; from my review of the fee schedule, the relevant value (DRB, 1+2 Family
Residential Structure, Façade Alteration) is $150, made payable to the Saratoga Commissioner
of Finance – can you confirm if that is correct? In the interest of ensuring our place on the
agenda we’ll get that and the hard-copy delivered swiftly to your offices, but please advise if
there are any relevant deadlines to be aware of.

Window Well Dome Cover Option
Limits the accumulation of snow, leaves and debris.
Constructed of polycarbonate, this high impact cover is
UV-resistant and designed for durability and long life.
Note: For applications with a casement window, the
well must be installed so that it is above the top of the
window for a dome cover to be utilized.

Building Line Window well side panels must
extend 4” above grade level.
Grade must be sloped away
from well. Downspouts must also
be directed away from the well.
Use ¾” clean
free-draining
rock or A6 stone
at least 12” in
width around
all sides of the
well. Fill to depth
of foundation
footing.
*Wells can be installed lower than the recommended 3 ½” to help meet grade conditions.
Tie rock fill into perimeter
drain if available.

WindowWellSystem
Distance from the outside of the foundation wall to the inside face of the first step:
ScapeWEL = 30” StakWEL = 33¼” (37 ¼” to the inside wall)
Selecting the Proper Size
Step 1:
Measure or calculate dimension A as shown in the
detail on the right based on the site’s grade conditions
and foundation height.
Step 2:
Determine the required window well side panel height
by performing this simple calculation:
Required Side Panel Height = Dimension A + 7 ½”
From the table below, select the closest height that
will meet the site conditions.
Step 3:
Once the side panel height has been determined, read
across and select the desired window width. With the
window size selected, read across to select the proper
window well and cover.
Note: Both StakWEL® and ScapeWEL® models
satisfy building code requirements for emergency egress.

**Products with dark bronze and black interiors have matching exteriors.
Dimensions in parentheses are in millimeters.
Printing limitations prevent exact replication of colors and finishes.
See your Andersen supplier for actual color and finish samples.
Naturally occurring variations in grain, color and texture of wood make each window
one of a kind. All wood interiors are unfinished unless a finish is specified.
Distressed bronze and oil rubbed bronze are “living” finishes that will change with time and use.
FRAME
A A seamless one-piece, rigid vinyl
frame cover is secured to the exterior
of the frame to protect the wood
frame from moisture and maintain
an attractive appearance while
minimizing maintenance.
B The seamless rigid vinyl cover
extends 1 3 ⁄8" (35) around the perimeter
of the unit, creating a flange to help
seal the unit to the structure.
C Wood frame members are treated
with a water-repellent preservative for
long-lasting* protection and performance.
D Interior stops are unfinished pine.
Low-maintenance prefinished white,
dark bronze and black** interiors are
also available.
SASH
E Rigid vinyl encases the entire
sash – a vinyl weld protects each sash
corner for superior weathertightness.
It maintains an attractive appearance
and minimizes maintenance.
F Wood core members provide
excellent structural stability and
energy efficiency.
G Vinyl closed-cell foam weatherstrip
is factory installed on the perimeter
of the sash.
GLASS
H In addition to stainless steel glass
spacers, black or white glass spacers
are now available to allow the spacer
to blend in with the unit color.
I A glazing bead and silicone provide
superior weathertightness and durability.
J High-Performance options include:
• Low-E4® glass
• Low-E4 HeatLock® glass
• Low-E4 SmartSun™ glass
• Low-E4 SmartSun HeatLock glass
• Low-E4 Sun glass
Tempered and other glass options
are available. Contact your Andersen
supplier.
A removable translucent film helps
shield the glass from damage during
delivery and construction, and simplifies
finishing at the job site.
Patterned Glass
Patterned glass options are available.
See page 12 for more details.
HARDWARE
Smooth Control Hardware System
The smooth control
hardware system
employs a worm
gear drive for easy
operation. Units
with a wash mode
have hinges that
move the sash away
from the frame to
provide easier glass
cleaning. CXW15, CXW155, CXW16
and CXW25 sizes not available with
wash mode. Hardware option and
finish must be specified. Operator
handle and cover sold separately.
Single-Actuation Casement Lock
On casement windows, a single-
actuation lock easily releases all
locking points on the casement sash
while the reach-out action eliminates
binding when closing. The lock handle
is offered in finishes that coordinate
with your specified hardware option.
Awning Sash Locks
Awning sash locks provide an added
measure of security and weathertightness.
Hardware style and finish options are
compatible with Andersen® casement
windows to ensure consistency in
appearance when used in window
combination designs.
