RE: 46 Circular Street – Exterior Alterations
Dear Tamie:
The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation has reviewed the application for the
handicap lift and landscape changes to 46 Circular Street.
The Greek Revival style house was built in 1832 for John Clarke, who had a significant
impact on the development in the early years of the village of Saratoga and for the bottling
and selling Congress Spring water. The house is a contributing building to the Casino-
Congress Park-Circular Street Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic
Places.
The Foundation is pleased that Empire State University will own the property and make
significant investment to preserve and maintain the building. The proposed alterations to
the rear of the building for improved accessibility are sensitively designed. The Foundation
supports the project that will allow more people to access the interior of this significant
historic space.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
C. Christopher Armer Samantha Bosshart
