Railroad Run is always part of our trips. We run, walk, and bike there with our children because it is safe, shaded, and car free, and it connects easily to other paths and neighborhoods. As visitors who stay in local lodging and spend money at local restaurants and shops, the character of Railroad Run is a major part of what keeps us coming back to Saratoga instead of choosing a different destination. Building a 36‑unit development along this corridor would permanently change the experience of the trail and undermine the very qualities that make it special. The continuous line of trees and green space along Railroad Run is not just pretty scenery; urban trees are proven infrastructure that clean the air, absorb stormwater, reduce flooding, provide shade and cooler temperatures during heat waves, and support birds and other wildlife. Paving over more of this corridor and crowding it with backs of the buildings and traffic would replace a quiet, restorative greenway with noise, exhaust, and hard surfaces. The traffic at the entrance of the YMCA is already challenging at peak hours and more cars will make it quite difficult and potentially unsafe to small children, runners and bikers. Once this tree canopy and open space are lost to development, they cannot be brought back in any meaningful timeframe. Saratoga Springs has made a public commitment to trails, the Greenbelt, and an urban forest that improves public health, attracts tourists, and supports local businesses. Railroad Run is a key piece of that vision, and it should be strengthened, not squeezed. As visitors who deeply value this community, we urge you to protect Railroad Run from this kind of intensive development, preserve a generous, natural buffer along the trail from Price Chopper, and look for housing solutions in locations that do not sacrifice one of Saratoga’s most beloved and accessible green spaces. Please do not let short‑term construction erase a long‑term asset that serves residents, visitors, and future generations. Respectfully, Bozena and Marek Niebrzydowski
