AREA VARIANCE—PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING(add additional information as necessary):
The applicant requests relief from the following Zoning Ordinance article(s)

To grant an area variance,the ZBA must balance the benefits to the applicant and the health,safety,and welfare of the neighborhood and
community,taking into consideration the following:
I. Whether the benefit sought by the applicant can be achieved by other feasible means. Identify what alternatives to the variance have
been explored (alternative designs,attempts to purchase land,etc.)and why they are not feasible.
The existing carport(and attached shed)has a negative setback of 4.6 ft. (+/-).The applicants wish to remove the carport and
shed, and clean up that side of the house. The applicants wish to add a second story above the current foundation.The current
overhang measures approximately 7.7 ft.to the adjacent property line.As this is an existing non-conforming item, a variance is
required to build above the existing foundation.

2. Whether granting the variance will produce an undesirable change in the character of the neighborhood or a detriment to nearby
properties. Granting the variance will not create a detriment to nearby properties or an undesirable change in the neighborhood
character for the following reasons:
Granting the requested variance will not produce an undesirable change in the neighborhood or detriment to nearby properties.
Adding the proposed second floor will bring the home into scale with the existing 2 story homes adjacent to and across the street
from the subject property.
The Applicants will also be adding a covered front porch, keeping in concert with other homes in the neighborhood, and Saratoga
in general.
Removing the existing carport and attached shed,which currently extend onto the neighbor's property by 4.b tt. (+/-), is actually a
benefit to the neighbor.

3. Whether the variance is substantial. The requested variance is not substantial for the following reasons:
The requested variance is not substantial. The required minimum side yard setback is 8ft, and the existing setback to the small
(3")existing overhang measures 7.7 ft. We are within 3"of not needing a variance at all,should we wish to keep a very slight
overhang. —
Since the remainder of the home will have a 12"overhang,we wish to keep the overhang consistent along the north side as well,

All other setbacks,including total side yard,are in compliance.This includes lot coverages and total amount required to be
permeable.
4. Whether the variance will have adverse physical or environmental effects on neighborhood or district. The requested variance will not
have an adverse physical or environmental effect on the neighborhood or district for the following reasons:

The alleged difficulty is self-created by the Applicant's desire to add a second story above the existing first floor,including a small
