The residence located at 9 Spa Circle, which historically was 238 Ballston Avenue, is an example of the Queen Anne style, which was popular between 1880-1910. Unfortunately, the location of this house is not included in any maps. According to the City Directories, no buildings were listed south of Livingston Avenue prior to 1886. It should be noted that the house at 9 Spa Circle is one of the few historic buildings in the area and every effort should be made to retain as many of the character-defining features of the historic house. The Foundation appreciates the changes the applicant has made since its last submission. However, it reiterates its concerns previously expressed in the letter dated October 15, 2025. The Foundation does not support the following changes to the east façade - the gable roof; the ribbon of windows in the gable; the window configuration of the first story as they are not consistent with the style of the house; and the porch column spacing and lack of a balustrade. Furthermore, the Foundation does not support the insertion of solid panels in any of the windows. No further information regarding the material for the stairs and the planters was provided so the Foundation is unable to provide an informed opinion regarding those aspects of the proposal. The Foundation remains concerned with the proposed removal of the two-story bay, which appears to be original or at least historic. The Foundation appreciates the applicant’s investment in this historic property. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
