The Foundation appreciates that the applicant will retain the existing wood balustrade, wood columns, and concrete stair cheek walls. The “Virginia” from the “1919 Aladdin Readi Cut Houses” catalogue provided in the recent submission does not show stone facing for the column bases. It shows rusticated cast concrete blocks, which was typical of the style and time. It does not appear that the house at 202 Lake Avenue used the cast concrete rusticated block for the bases of the porch columns or the foundation. The photo of 70 Lake Avenue showing the use of stone is appropriate for a contemporary house, but not for a historic circa 1924 American Foursquare. The Foundation continues to object to the proposed re-facing of the bases of the columns with stone and recommends that the rough cast stucco column bases be repaired in-kind. The Foundation appreciates the investment the owners are making into their home. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
