I. Project Description
The 624 North Broadway project consists of the demolition of an existing building and
construction of a new multi-family residence with associated site improvements. The residence is
planned to have a basement level garage.
II. Existing Water and Sanitary Sewer Utilities
There are water and sanitary connections for the existing building on site, but they have not yet been
located. The plans have called for these services to be located; for the sanitary sewer to be cut and
capped, and for the water service connection to be located in the street and the corporation valve
turned to permanently shut off the line. Removal of the curb box, and severing and capping of the
line are also included on the plans.
Municipal water service is available from the City of Saratoga Springs. A 10-inch diameter water
main is located in the center of Rock Street. Two water mains are located on the east half of North
Broadway; a 6-inch main is located near the center of the street and a 24-inch is located closer to the
curb.
Municipal sanitary sewer service is also available from the City of Saratoga Springs. A 12-inch
diameter gravity sanitary sewer main runs along the north side of Rock Street. This sanitary line
eventually connects to the Saratoga County Sewer District No. 1 (SCSD), where it ultimately is
directed for conveyance and treatment at the SCSD wastewater treatment plant in Mechanicville.
A 12-inch sanitary main is also located on the west side of North Broadway, but a connection to this
main was determined to be infeasible due to the distance away from the new building and elevation.
III. Projected Water and Wastewater Flows
The table below provides information on the anticipated wastewater flow rates for the project.
The building will have 4 individual units with a total of 14 bedrooms.
Description Use Rate Total Use
14 total bedrooms 110 gpd/bedroom1 1,540 gpd
Total 1,540 gpd
Average daily flow for wastewater is estimated to be 1.1 gallons per minute (gpm) based on a 24
hour day. Estimated peak hourly flow is 4.6 gpm (4.2 x average).2
Average daily demand for water is estimated to be approximately equal to the wastewater flow
or 1.1 gpm.
IV. Proposed Water and Wastewater Utilities
Proposed Water Utilities
To service the project, a water service is proposed on the Rock Street side of the project. The
project mechanical designer has not finalized sizing of the lateral, but it is believed that it will be
between 2 to 4-inches in diameter. When the sizing is finalized, the plans will be updated to
reflect the final sizing.
Connections and appurtenances, including corporation stops, trenching, bedding, service
connections, as well as testing and disinfection will all be specified in accordance with City of
Saratoga Springs and NYSDOH standards.
A residential sprinkler system is proposed for the building.
Proposed Wastewater Utilities
For sanitary sewer collection, a 6” PVC sewer lateral connection on the Rock Street side of the
project is proposed. The lateral will be installed at a minimum 2.0% slope per City of Saratoga
Springs requirements to ensure adequate pipe cleansing.
