Project Name Park Place - Cottage Street condo site plan review Project Number Field not completed. Project Address Park Place at Cottage Street Comments It was with no little distress that my fiancé, Dr. Gissou Azabdaftari, and I learned of the plans to build a six-unit condominium facing Park Place, just a few doors down the street from our home. Although we chose to live in Saratoga Springs for the big city amenities, entertainment, and cultural offerings, we specifically chose our home on Park Place for the small town, residential character of the street. We are currently renovating our circa 1890 home to bring it back to its original glory. 5/19/25, 11:55 AM Mail - Mark Graham - Outlook https://outlook.office365.com/mail/inbox/id/AAQkAGIxYTcxODdiLTE4ZmUtNDdlMy05MTNlLTA4ZjY5NTFhMDAzMQAQANDl6kyk0ItKmioq7%2FIgeto%…1/2 The proposed plan is not in character with the neighborhood. A tall, six-unit building is fine for downtown, but not for a quiet, residential street with one- and two-family homes. It is also specious for the developer to claim his project design is based on a “historic hotel” on the site. Upon viewing the Sanborn Fire maps for Saratoga Springs (years 1895 and 1900), one can see a two-story, frame building on the north corner of Park Place and Cottage Street (the current proposed site of the project). The “hotel” (which is not indicated as such on the map) is approximately 40 feet wide. This building is no taller and no larger than the other homes on the street. The two buildings on Park Place that the map identifies as hotels were only two stories tall and again, not substantially larger than the homes on the street. A perusal of residents’ directories of the time period lists only individual residents for the address. For the developer to make a claim stating his design echoes that of a previous building reflects only a desire to rewrite history for his own use and means. We urge you to preserve the current character of the neighborhood and to prevent this contemporary insult from marring our street. Sincerely, Dr. Greg Leck and Dr. Gissou Azabdaftari Attach Photo (optional)Sanborn Fire map for Saratoga Springs 1900.jpg Email not displaying correctly?
