Comments Good Morning - I have not commented before on the proposed
“addition” to the current location of Sperry’s restaurant on
Caroline Street as the plan proposed is so bizarre, I thought it
would surely be rejected or at least, majorly altered from the “
wrap-around” idea. Apparently not.
Understanding the Board and Preservation Foundation are
concerned with the scope and obtrusive size of the proposal - I

also want to share my concerns about the loss of a historic
piece of Saratoga.
My husband and I were frequent customers at Sperrys and
saddened when it shuttered its doors. On a personal level, we
made our decision to relocate here for retirement sitting at the
bar there and “hashing” out our plan…that was over 13 years
ago.
When we first dined there - it was highly recommended as an
experience we had to have to really understand Saratoga - we
immediately loved the restaurant - the food and more important
the building! It was a slice of Saratoga history.
In my opinion, this proposal will destroy that. Yes, you can
argue that Sperry’s will still be there, but to wrap it with the
massive (and in my mind - ugly) building is a travesty. Surely
there has to be a compromise to this! Don’t take away a piece
of Saratoga for the sake of “modernization” and making
money…bottom line - that is exactly why this addition is
proposed in the first place. I feel this space can be more
creatively used if you really cared about the value Sperry’s
brings.
I hope my words will be at least heard, although I feel this is a
“done deal”. Please don’t let this project move forward as
proposed. At least make the proposed addition something that
we can be okay with…this is not.
Thank you.
