I want to commend the property owners (the Fullers) and their design team for a sensitive plan for expanding and renovating their historic home. We have lived on Lincoln Avenue for over 18 years. We chose our historic home because of the beauty of the block it is on 3/24/25, 8:25 AM Mail - Mark Graham - Outlook https://outlook.office365.com/mail/inbox/id/AAQkAGIxYTcxODdiLTE4ZmUtNDdlMy05MTNlLTA4ZjY5NTFhMDAzMQAQAFZ%2FRLLtvW5MluIDNj7Rfv…1/2 and its proximity to the heart of the city and the race course. Our few blocks near Five Points are an eclectic mix of historic homes in several styles from several different eras. All of them are set close to the street/sidewalk and close to each other. They create exacly the type of close-knit urban district that fosters a vibrant streetscape and a safe, friendly pedestrian environment. Looking at the northern side of the Lincoln Avenue between Southeast Street and Park Place, it is clear that 85 Lincoln Avenue is the most modest sized home. Compared to the three significantly taller/larger Victorian-era homes to the west and the two somewhat smaller but still substantial Victorian-era homes to the east, 85 Lincoln is quite small. The existing one- story wing at the west side of the house looks like an awkward and utilitarian addition. The proposed plans for 85 Lincoln, although increasing the footprint and volume of the house substantially, create a well- proportioned and still comparatively modest home. Post expansion/renovation, 85 Lincoln Avenue will be larger. But it will also look more intentionally designed and proportional, and it will still fit in well with the context of the block. I encourage the Zoning Board of Appeals to grant the owners' request for the variance(s) they are seeking to proceed with this project. I expect that it will be a welcome addition to our neighborhood. And, when the dust settles, the expanded 85 Lincoln will look like it has always been there.
