immediate, rushed, approval to fill-in 2 acres of irreplaceable
wetlands and to clear-cut 9 acres of mature woodlands
(containing trees over 100 yrs old, again irreplaceable). This
reason is a stated need to create "curb-appeal" for potential
buyer/leasers. Where in certain circumstances, e.g. when the
land is already modified in the recent past and clearing may
have an insignificant impact, it may be considered acceptable.
This is not the case, its an irreversible destruction of lands that
are routinely protected for there value to the city as a "sensitive
natural area" even if they are not regulatorily required to be
maintained, which can be, and is, debated as segmentation
under SEQRA..
Further, the issues of rushing a permit through city approval
only 54 day before a NYSDEC law is enacted who's intent to
further protect an estimated 1 million acres of small, unique
wetlands such as the ones we are reviewing now defies
common sense and violates the intent of SEQRA. And all this
for the value of "curb appeal", stating that potential buyers can't
"see through" the potential of the land.
Please, wait 2 months until the state determines whether the
wetlands are protected. You have the authority under existing
City laws, plans, and ordinances.
Thank You
David
