Dear Susan Barden Members of the Saratoga Planning Board, I am writing as a concerned resident regarding the proposed development near Mohr's Service Center (239 Washington St.), which includes bulldozing approximately 9 acres of forest and filling in wetlands between Outlook Ave and West Ave. I would like to voice my strong opposition to this plan, as it threatens the safety and well-being of my family, as well as the integrity of our neighborhood. When we purchased our home, one of the key factors was the safe, quiet environment. We have small children, and the absence of fast-moving cars in our neighborhood was critical in making our decision. However, this development will bring increased traffic, noise, and pollution, forcing more vehicles to cut through our residential streets. This poses a significant safety risk not only for my children but also for the other families and the neighboring school. Additionally, the beautiful trees that border our property, which are part of the forest in question, were one of the features that drew us to this location. Losing this natural barrier will not only affect the aesthetic value of the area but will also expose us to the increased noise and pollution from West Ave. My family is already dealing with flooding in our basement, and we are deeply concerned that filling in the wetlands will only worsen this problem. Wetlands play a vital role in absorbing excess rainwater during storms, and their destruction could lead to more frequent and severe flooding in our homes. This project seems inconsistent with the city's vision for sustainable development, as outlined in the 2015 Comprehensive Plan. The loss of natural habitat, reduction in water filtration, and increased flood risk are serious environmental concerns that should not be overlooked. I respectfully urge the board to reconsider this development and explore alternatives that would preserve the natural landscape and the safety of our community. Our neighborhood's character, safety, and environmental health depend on responsible planning decisions, and I hope you will take our concerns into account. Thank you for your time and consideration. 10/10/24, 10:48 AM Mail - Julia Destino - Outlook https://outlook.office365.com/mail/inbox/id/AAQkADI5NDIzZGRiLTQwNjEtNGM1MS05ZmQxLTUyZTNkMzFiZDJiZQAQAOFdP4K%2BtTJGpBadhkUB…1/2 Eliza & Thomas Bianco (27 Outlook Ave.) 10/10/24, 10:48 AM Mail - Julia Destino - Outlook https://outlook.office365.com/mail/inbox/id/AAQkADI5NDIzZGRiLTQwNjEtNGM1MS05ZmQxLTUyZTNkMzFiZDJiZQAQAOFdP4K%2BtTJGpBadhkUB…2/2
