increased traffic on West Ave, but it also helps protect the
neighborhood from all the pollution from that traffic
The filling in of the wetlands could lead to an increased risk of
flooding in basements and homes since wetlands act like
sponges, absorbing and storing excess rainwater during
storms, reducing the risk of flooding in residential areas
With all the increased development on West Ave, comes
increased traffic. People will be looking to avoid the traffic by
cutting through our residential neighborhood.
This project will have additional environmental impacts,
including habitat loss and reduced water filtration and carbon
sequestration, and is inconsistent with the objectives stated in
the 2015 Comprehensive Plan: “The overriding philosophy that
will guide future development of our "City in the Country" will be
sustainability.” (2015 Comprehensive Plan, p. iv)
I urge the city to reconsider allowing these wetlands to be filled
in.
