Cultivating Connections: Sustaining Heritage through Interpretative Signage
A comprehensive interpretative signage program aimed at fostering visitation, education, and
cultural enrichment on our farm acreage. This program aims to create a dynamic and engaging
experience for visitors by integrating informative signage throughout the farm, emphasizing
regenerative farming practices, identification of native plants and animals, wayfinding, and the
rich history of the land, with a focus on Eastern Algonquian history and language, specifically
Abenaki and Mahican, and Irioquoian Mohawk translations.
Objectives:
•
• Bring our Stewardship Plan to Life: Share our community-developed land management and
conservation practices with the public as they explore our community farm
•
• Enhance Educational Opportunities: Develop and install interpretative signage that
educates visitors about regenerative farming practices, sustainable agriculture, and the
historical significance of Pitney Meadows Community Farm.
•
• Promote Biodiversity Awareness: Create signage highlighting the native flora and fauna on
the farm, fostering an understanding of the ecological importance of preserving native
species and their habitats.
•
• Facilitate Wayfinding: Implement wayfinding signage to guide visitors through the various
farm areas, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all guests.
•
• Celebrate Cultural Heritage: Incorporate information about the Abenaki, Mahican, and
Mohawk people, recognizing and honoring their historical connection to the land, while
providing translations and interpretations in the Eastern Algonquian and Mohawk language
families.
