Dear Zoning Board of Appeals,
As a household that will be impacted by granting the variance for putting a two-family
home to replace the single-family dwelling, I am asking that it be denied as it does not
meet current zoning regulations.
Zoning regulations are in place to maintain the character and integrity of our
community. Consistency in zoning is essential for preserving the identity and appeal of
our neighborhoods. This variance has the potential to negatively impact residents of
Union Street that have rear-facing garages on Schrade Lane regarding traffic patterns,
noise levels, decreased green space, and the overall quality of life. These adverse
effects must be carefully considered to maintain harmonious relationships within the
community. Currently, the single-family dwelling on the proper ty has a driveway entering
on Aletta Street. It is my belief that if the dwelling is to be replaced, it should be within
the current footprint of the property and not with a 25% land variance and change in
driveway access.
Granting variances sets a precedent that may encourage further requests for exceptions
to zoning regulations. This slippery slope could lead to a gradual erosion of zoning
standards, ultimately resulting in a haphazard and disjointed development pattern that
undermines the cohesive vision for our community.
Thank you,
Lisa Kmen-Riker
