Comments Sometimes writing to the Planning Board or Design Review
Committee feels like banging your head against a wall! It
seems that the only thing that matters is the desires of the
developer and these committees just serve as a rubber stamp
approval. It is a shame there is so little desire to really care
about the historic nature of our city or creating designs that
blend with historic buildings when new projects are designed.
Writing letters seems like a waste of time. Doubt if anyone
cares enough to even read what is written. It appears that
decisions are already made and whatever objections the
Saratoga Preservation Foundation suggests are just ignored. I
think it is awful that the slate roof on this historic property will
just be jettisoned. No one cares. Least of all the
developer...and requiring that the house be restored wherever
it may be moved before occupancy permits are issued is so
important. The risk of this house just being jettisoned should be
of real concern if anyone cares about anything but money.
Trusting the developer to keep promises is too risky. Past
experience shows they can't be trusted to care about design or
historic properties. It's all about the bottom line. What's cheap
and quick and makes the most money is all they care about.
My apologies if I have offended someone who actually cares,
but no matter what the protests from the community, the rubber
stamp wins!
