A heavy duty shed with hefty 2x6 full -dimensioned hemlock floor and roof framing, this building features attractive trim details and a generous roof overhang that offers better protection from the ele- ments. Standard with two hinged barn sash windows, a treated ramp and a wood louvered vent, this structure is aesthetically pleasing as well as utilitarian. The storage cottage has plenty of room for both his and her needs. When sheltering a heavy tractor take into consideration the floor system, and the door height clearance. It sometimes works best to eliminate the floor or beef up the floor framing by requesting 16" on center joists and an additional (center) skid. The door clearance should allow the height of the roll bar to clear. Figure 1. Step 1. Apply your first sheet of metal allowing the metal to hang over the shadow board by 2" on both the gable end and the bearing wall. Figure 2. To gain this result, the metal can be held down from the peak a couple inches as the ridge cap will cover this area. The first sheet installed is the most important. It will dictate how the rest layout. Step 2. The metal roofing is then screwed into the strapping. Screws are positioned on the flats between every ridge and on the ridge only where two pieces of metal overlap, as shown in figure 3 T T T T -' Figure 3 Step 3. Apply the ridge cap. The ridge cap is screwed into the top course of strapping, only in the ridges. Screwing the ridge cap in the valleys will cause the metal to dent. Figures 4 through 6 If the building is out of square the metal roofing will not fit. Each piece may need adjusting to make it fit. If you are supplying your own material, use the diagram on the previous page for cutting the metal for the front roof and dormer. If not, the metal roofing included in your kit has been cut to size for you. To cut metal roofing, score the metal with a knife from the white side. Then flex it at the score until it snaps. Make sure to match the roof pattern before cutting. sn W, Roof panel Stitch Screw (every rib) Fastener — 14" Universal Ridge Fastener spacing to be 8"- 12" on center.
