This project all stems from Margaret Sweet wishing to have a secondary building located on her property for her aging mother who would like to reside in a one story dwelling and assist with the raising of Margaret’s ten year old daughter. Very nice family effort! To enter the house there are steps either up through the front door or up the back deck; As one ages stairs become more and more difficult. I saw this with my parents, and three people needing to assist my father to walk down three steps a few months before his passing. The functionally of architecture and width of doorways, removal of stairs, handrails in bathrooms is of the upmost importance as we all face aging. Please stop and consider how many years Mrs. Sweet senior will reside alone across the garden? Watch functionality does this look like with a set of deck stairs to the main house? If there is a fall, also occurred with my father one one level in the middle of the night, and it is winter with emergency service coming? Simply ask if the best solution is to live under the same heated, comforted roof. Where boots and jackets do not need to be thrown on in a moment of panic. Is Maggie Sweet permitted to build up? If so, her mother could take the downstairs current bedroom, Maggie could go upstairs, and one day when the daughter grows and requires more privacy, she could take over the upstairs bedroom? In this fashion the deck needn’t be moved. I do appreciate how much funding Maggie Sweet put forth for her deck and adjacent garden. It is noted also, that the family asked to buy one neighbor’s home (a 2 story next door, said neighbor declined). And with the sale of Mrs. Sweet Senoir’s potentaial downtown Saratoga home sale, working with an architect could be a potential option for a best overall solution. In a past meeting 3 parking spaces were to be shown, only 1 was. Attach Photo (optional)Field not completed. Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser.
