Comments I am not in favor of granting a special use permit for the
proposed private social club at 118 Woodlawn Ave. The social
club is not compatible with the current use or zoning of the
neighborhood which is completely residential.
Furthermore, the increased traffic would be a safety hazard to
pedestrians. The proposed parking lot is across the street from
the church. pedestrians will almost certainly cross the street to
use the facility, rather than walk to the corner to cross. And at
night this intersection is especially hazardous due to limited
lighting in the area. Only one of the four corners at Woodlawn
and Van Dam has a marked cross walk, and traffic on Van
Dam backs up when there is a red light at Broadway. Cars
typically block the cross walk increasing the hazard. Cars
heading North on Woodlawn accelerate through the
intersection, right in the path of pedestrians crossing from the
parking lot to the church. The hazard is significant.
Thank you,
Lou Malikow
