Good morning,
We have just learned of the proposed
enterprise at 118 Woodlawn. As vested
neighbors, we feel compelled to share our
concerns.
The intersection at Woodlawn and Van Dam
is one we pass through frequently, both on
foot and in our cars, and it is one of the

most congested areas in downtown
Saratoga. Traffic is commonly backed up
down the hill to Broadway to the east and
beyond Clinton to the west. Trying to cross
Van Dam on foot, in spite of the crosswalk
there, is already challenging. There simply
isn’t any room for increasing the vehicle and
foot traffic at the capacity referenced in the
proposal. When you consider that this is one
of the most direct routes to the hospital,
worsening the congestion in this area could
have dire consequences beyond the already
frustrating daily inconvenience.
We are also disappointed that the city would
consider introducing a social/nightlife
element into this lovely, quiet, family
neighborhood. This is an area where playing
kids come and go, families have backyard
barbecues, and neighbors walk their dogs.
The character would be dramatically changed
with the proposed club, and adding a
potentially large volume of patrons coming
and going would have a significant negative
impact on the feeling of safety the residents
of this neighborhood now enjoy. Most who
live here chose this neighborhood specifically

because it is close to downtown without
actually being in the commercial zone.
We appreciate your time and consideration.
Please share our comments with the
planning board. We urge all to vote against
this proposal.
Thank you,
Jay & Marla Carruthers
