In re: special use permit for EC Woodlawn Van Dam LLC
For properties at 121-125 Woodlawn Ave.
To Chairman Torpey,
I am writing in regard to the above stated issue to voice my opposition to granting a
special use permit for a "social club" at this location, which is essentially a restaurant
and bar in my neighborhood. It is inconsistent with the character of the area that lies to
the north of the intersection of Van Dam St. and Woodlawn Ave., which is residential.
The street here is narrow, requiring alternate parking, making a commercial enterprise
which would be inaccessible to delivery trucks, dumpster trucks and service vehicles.
The street is already subject to complete blockages at the times of day that vehicles
need to be moved. The impact of such a venture on the already strained parking for
local residents and a potentially dangerous intersection adds to the inadvisability of
granting such a project.
In addition, the noise and other activities associated with this sort of venue is in direct
opposition to the quiet enjoyment of a residential neighborhood. Noise from downtown
bars is already perceivable at this distance, The presence of a club in close proximity
would be incompatable. There is also the unfortunate increase of violence and
disturbances in recent times that show no sign of being controlled, but at least have
been contained to the areas where clubs are permitted.
In conclusion, we are strongly opposed to the granting of a permit that will allow this
type of enterprise at that location.
Respectfully,
