Comments I don't know if my previous comment went through so I will start
over. My wife and neighbors have been anxiously waiting to
hear about this project since the property sold in summer 2022.
At that time the City Code Enforcement officer told us that the
applicant had applied for an emergency permit to, inexplicably,
tear off the front porch so that they could save the porch posts.
To be clear, that is they did nothing to address the issues with
the foundation. The building was then left exposed with all
windows on the upper floor not bordered up until a neighbor
complained at a City Council meeting, That followed several
emails to Code Enforcement. We were also told that the
developer was a presevationist and was planning to lift the
building to replace the foundation, I urge the Board to keep in
mind the history and efforts of those of us in the neighborhood
who have worked hard and at much expense to preserve the
history Saratoga claims to value. While some may say
insignificant, this building dates back to the 1800's and was a
staple in this neighborhood since the railroad ran through it's
backyard. tt is on;ly insignificant to those who are not invested
in this neighborhood. This is a clear case of demolition by
neglect and yet another example of a money grab by a
developer who cares nothing for city neighbors or history
neighborhoods.
In any case, I go back to the first point. Why did public notice
not occur? Why were us neighbors kept in the dark until a final
decision was in front of the Board? This is unacceptable and
grounds for an article 78. I will be at tomorrow's meeting with
more.
