Comments Please delay consideration of this plan until greater clarity on
the project can be ascertained. Its sponsors claim repeatedly it
has “no neighborhood opposition” and will have “no adverse
impacts to adjacent neighbors,” but neither claim is accurate.
Like many nearby residents, I am concerned about how the
project will impact the local environment, forestry, wildlife, road
traffic, community safety, noise, and light pollution. The plan’s
sponsor has made verbal assurances to area residents about
setbacks, hours of outdoor operation, visual barriers, sound
attenuation, but no final agreements have been reached or
written into project documents.
The proposal describes the “select removal of vegetation” (pp.
2–3), but the sponsor has expressed an intention to clearcut
some 20+ wooded acres, up to the Adams Rd boundary. Many
residents are outraged at this proposed deforestation, which
will have an extreme “adverse impact” on the character of the
neighborhood. How can the board reconcile this plan with the
city’s need to preserve the area’s rural character and local
ecology? What responsibilities are made incumbent on the
project by the city’s Comprehensive Plan conservation
development districts?
Area residents also require greater, written assurances from
the sponsor about how product storage will affect our visual
environment. He has told us verbally that local zoning
requirements permit stacking of Soleno’s pipes up to 50' high.
Is this accurate? In the plan’s official renderings they are plainly
visible from the street. (Our own homes, meanwhile, do not
appear.) Many residents object to this transformation of Adams
Rd. We ask for more time to discuss other solutions.
Most decisions surrounding this plan have already been made
without consultation with the neighboring residents. Its
unannounced “phase 2” operations give cause for concern.
How can the city help ensure ongoing transparency with (and
accountability to) the local community going forward?
