DI.SCUSSICK: The building located at 300 Excelsior Ave. is architecturally
significant as an intact representative example of Victorian Period
architecture which reflects a variety of late-19th century stylistic influences,
including Queen -Anne, Italianate, Gothic Revival as well as Colonial Revival.
The two-story cross -gable, clapboard sheathed building's distinguishing features
include a decorative polychrome slate roof, paired pointed -arch windows enframed
in round arch architraves, one-story oriel, paired entry doors with round -arch
windows, and full -width front porch with projecting portico, both supported by
paired doric columns. Adding to the significance of this property is the
contemporaneous carriage house with cupola, which is also cross -gabled, has
paired windows, and is clapboard sheathed with a slate roof. The carriage house
also retains original double hung sash. Both the main house and the carriage
house retain a high level of original fabric and architectural integrity.
