Dear Zoning Board of Appeals,
We are the owners of the property at 25 Bensonhurst Ave, we are one of the adjoining properties to the
back of the parcel requesting an area variance from this board .
We would like to express concern, regarding the "speed" to get this request in front of this board, with
no regard to the neighboring property owners' ability to respond . We received notification of this
meeting Wednesday June 1 to appear Monday the 17th. Unfortunately, business out of state and
prior commitments Monday the 17th make it unable for us to attend . We hope that you accept this
letter stating our concerns with the proposed area variance request.
Stated role of the ZBA is to "balance the benefits to the applicant and the health, safety and welfare of
the neighborhood and community."
We have been property owners on this street for 10 years, in that time we have seen several new
houses built and/or rehabbed that have improved and benefitted this neighborhood while adhering to
zoning, variances and code requirement processes of the City of Saratoga Springs.
As stated in the application "the variances requested result from that self-created situation" . Having
been neighbors we are aware of the disregard for city ordinances, codes and zoning by the owner of this
parcel over the last several years. The only reason we are here now is that the owner is trying to
retrofit past illegal projects.
We have invested a lot of sweat and financial equity on our home and we fear a negative effect on
property values of our home and surrounding homes if the requested area variance is approved .
