HomeMy WebLinkAbout20221027 Skidmore Construction Wellness Center Intro Letter 2022 11 04 November 4, 2022 Mr. Mark Torpey, Chairman City of Saratoga Springs Planning Board 474 Broadway Saratoga Springs, New York 12866 RE: Health, Wellness, Fitness and Tennis Center – Skidmore College | Site Plan Review Dear Mr. Torpey: On behalf of the Applicant, Skidmore College, attached please find applications, plans, SEQRA, the required application fee and other materials as outlined on the transmittal for the proposed Health, Wellness, Fitness and Tennis Center project. The project is located in the athletic precinct of campus, immediately to the east of the Williamson Sports Center. This project was approved on May 19, 2020. We have digitally sent the approved plan set for your use. The project has been modified from the previous approval, most notably the building has increased from ±45,000 SF to ±75,400 SF; this is to accommodate for health and wellness offices relocating to the proposed building. (See the comparison on Sheet L-001). The building remains less than the 50’ maximum height allowed and will house a new fitness center and four indoor tennis courts. Another notable modification is that daycare services are relocating to a different building on campus, allowing for the removal of the existing building. This removal allows for the creation of a sloped lawn area that can provide daylight to the lower-level fitness/workout rooms. It also allows for the absorption of 27 existing parking spaces, and the loss of only 3 existing spaces to improve bus circulation. While this project is mostly an enhancement of existing programs, which requires no additional par king, the relocation of health and wellness offices will require 12 spaces. With the ability to absorb 27 existing spaces, no additional parking is needed for those offices. We look forward to discussing this project to the Planning Board. We anticipate being on the agenda as soon as possible since the academic calendar is driving our schedule to meet the needs of the fall tennis season. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
