Re: Boughton Porch Project#20220446
Dear ZBA Members,
I am urging you to support and vote in favor of the requested variances for Luke and Lauren
Boughton in their effort to modify their existing porch on the Alger Street side of their property.
They have vastly improved the former "hot tub sales building" and transformed it into one of
the better looking properties in our neighborhood.
Quite frankly, the amount of relief they are requesting is quite minimal when you take into
consideration the layout of the neighborhood. Although the percentages of relief requested
may seem large, the true effect on neighboring properties will be negligible. The porch is mostly
hidden behind a fence, large bushes and trees. As noted in the submission materials, several
houses and related structures up and down the street have building coverages almost as large
or larger than the subject property. You would be hard pressed to drive down State Street,
Woodlawn Ave, Alger Street or Vermont St and find an existing residence that wouldn't need
multiple zoning variances if constructed today. This is one of the smaller lots in the
neighborhood and any variance requested is going to look large percentage wise.
Please step back and take a thoughtful look at our neighborhood and how this porch will
benefit the Boughtons and weigh that against the fact there will be no detriment to nearby
properties. Once you get past the math, the right answer will add up quickly.
Sincerely,
Gary Hasbrouck
