understand that members of the public who registered for last
night's Planning Board ("PB") workshop could not join because
the meeting was in "practice session" mode and the host forgot
to click on the "start webinar" button. My emailed alert to the
host at 5:27 pm prompted a gracious and constructive return
call from her about 6:35 pm after the meeting was over. I very
much appreciate her apology and her verbal summary of the
meeting and posting to the archives the 4-14-2022 CHA 5th
response that we have been seeking since it was first
mentioned at the 4-14-2022 PB meeting.
But of course, we would have preferred to hear first hand the
workshop discussion as required by state open meetings laws.
There have been too many roadblocks to the public's ability to
follow and comment on this controversial 269 Broadway
project.
Two suggestions:
1. The host should monitor emails for alerts to be able to fix the
problem before the end of the meeting.
2. The PB needs to consult the City Attorney. I don't believe
that practice sessions involving the PB members, staff and
applicant are allowed under state open meetings laws. It's one
thing for staff to practice with the PB Chairman, but involving all
meeting panelists in effect begins the meeting in secret.
