Comments Hello, my name is Anne Hockenos. My home of 55 years at 72
Ludlow St. is the nextdoor neighbor of the brick building
housing condominiums at 64 Ludlow St. An alley, now known
as LaBelle Lane, runs between these two buildings. My free-
standing garage is situated on the alley. Before the proposed
project of ten garages for the owners of the condos is a done
deal, I am asking the members of the Planning Board to take a
hard look at the drainage problem that exists on the alley. It is a
problem that I feel can only worsen during the months of
construction that this huge undertaking will entail.
In 2003, my husband Warren Hockenos, wrote to William
McTygue complaining about the drainage issue and the lack of
progress in addressing it. Briefly, every time it rained, the too-
high storm drains were useless; trucks and cars pushed the
accumulated water into our driveway, and our garage was
flooded. Trash barrels, tools, bikes, gardening equipment, etc.
were left standing in mud and soggy pine needles. Freezing
and thawing only compounded the mess in the winter. If there
was repaving over the years, the situation barely improved. The
storm drains are still nonfunctioning. Today, not only is the alley
the site of huge puddles after a rain storm (and melting snow),
one of the biggest puddles forms at its Ludlow Street end
where pedestrians have to ford it to get from the sidewalk in
front of 72 to the sidewalk in front of 64.
Please take this drainage problem into consideration while you
evaluate the project proposed by 64 Ludlow St. Thank you,
Anne Hockenos
