DESIGN GUIDELINES: The �esign Review Commission will evaluate whether the proposed action (construction, a�teration or demolition) is compatible with existing structures and surrounding properties using the following criteria: • Height—consistent with historic form and context of site and surrounding properties • Scale— relationship of stiructure and its architectural elements to hurnan size, form, perception • Proportion— relationship among building elements including front fa�ade, windows, and doors • Rhythm — Aattern resulting from repeating building elements such as doorlwindow openings, columns, arches, and other fa�ade elements • Directional Expression —campatibility with horizontal &vertical expression of surraunding s�ructures • Massing & Open Space— relationship of structure to op�n space between it and adjoining buildings • Setback—compati�ility with surrounding structures • Compatibility of the following with surrounding structe�res�properties: - Major building elements (storefronts, doars, windows, roo#� - $uilding materia6s - Cofor— (in non-residential zoning districts only} 5. DEc�51oN5:The Design Review Commission may approve, approve with cond'rtions, or disapprove an ap�lication. The DRC may impose appropriate conditions and safeguards in connectian wi�h its appraval including naturelquality of rnaterEals, manner of construction, and design. An applicant may appeal a cfenied DF�C application on the grounds of hardship.
