To Members of the Saratoga Springs Design Review
Commission:
I wish to clarify misinformation put forth regarding the Proposed
269 Broadway Project.
During the SEQR review by the Planning Board and statements
by the developer regarding historic district considerations the
SH PO letter was used to intimate that the project has historical
approval by SHPO. Both the Planning Board and the 269
Developer are incorrectly implying that SH PO approves the
project on historical basis. SHPO review and approval only
addresses known historical or cultural issues regarding
archeological conditions on or buried on the site.
SHPO has no jurisdiction over historical district considerations.
Approval by SHPO does not mean the Saratoga Springs
Design Review Commission or the Planning Board should
approve any project a developer puts forth. The community,
through a complete and unbiased appropriate review by the
Land Use Boards decides on the historical features and
considerations that are compatible with the community's
historical features in a historical district. SHPO has no
jurisdiction in such decisions.
