Project Address 269 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 Comments This is to object to the proposed changes to 269 Broadway - especially how it will change the aesthetics of this gateway entrance to Saratoga's downtown from the south for visitors and local residents alike. Adding another modern office block of negligible architectural interest for which there is no proven need or demand (given the amount of available retail and office space which has been growing during the pandemic) seems unwarranted. As proposed, the unremarkable new structure planned for 269 Broadway would obscure the view of one of Saratoga's architectural treasures - the historic and recently restored Union Preservation Hall (UPH) - so the trade-off seems a poor one, especially for a structure without proven need or apparent aesthetic merit. A large part of Saratoga's appeal comes from the visibility and accessibility of our historic buildings like Union Preservation Hall. Each one of those treasures which the board allows to be hidden by new development deletes another visual reminder of Saratoga's unique architectural heritage for all but those who already know the location and import of such hidden gems. Either have the present plan for 269 Broadway scaled down to allow UPH to remain visible - or consider a different plan of action for the property! Our local "goose" has a limited number of the golden "eggs" which repeatedly bring visitors to Saratoga - and make it a place so many area residents aspire to live in. Don't close them off for a few short-term added tax dollars when you could be doing long-term damage to the views of art and architecture which attract the public here - as well as maintains a viable population of year-round residents when other New York communities continue to lose them! Scale back or stop standard building blocks when they threaten key views of what makes Saratoga's downtown unique. Successful planning's JOB is to manage growth while PROTECTING the assets like UPH which first attract that growth! Attach Photo (optional) UPH.jpeg Email not displaying correctly?
